Inters
Volunteers play an integral role in assisting the education department fulfill its goals and objectives.
Interns support museum operations by helping with projects our staff would not ordinarily have the time to do. Our interns are usually college students, but occasionally we receive requests from highly motivated high school students as well. Education department interns work with projects related to audience and program development, from K-12 programming and tour development, teacher programs, and special education projects.
The museum is recruiting interns on an ongoing basis for the following:
Interpretive Services Intern
The museum is looking for interns interested in creating traveling exhibits produced by the LSM exhibits department. These exhibits would be offered to public libraries in all 64 parishes of Louisiana.
Interns will work under the two museum historians. With their oversight, interns will choose an appropriate exhibit topic related to Louisiana history and culture. Interns will conduct the research, and provide interpretive text, and a list of recommended images. They will also work with the exhibit design staff in creating the exhibit layout.
Students majoring in history, English, anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, art history, folklore, or other interpretive fields are encouraged to apply.
The traveling exhibits consist of four two-sided panels (3’ x 4’). The panels are made to pack and travel easily. The LSM traveling exhibit program is offered to public libraries throughout the state of Louisiana. Over 400,000 people view the traveling exhibits annually.
