Other Opportunities

Volunteers play an integral role in assisting the education department fulfill its goals and objectives.

The Education Department often uses volunteers to help with special projects such as bulk mailings, ushers for lectures and performance-based programs, and off-site events such as helping at art activity tables, and even helping education staff (including our staff historians) with research related activities.

Junior Ambassador Program

The Louisiana State Museum's Junior Ambassador Program selects ten highly motivated 8th grade students each school year to serve as volunteers in the Education Department. LSM's Education staff use the museum's permanent collection to provide selected students hands-on training in Louisiana History, the behind-the-scenes workings of a museum and tour guide techniques. Once Junior Ambassadors have successfully completed the training, they serve as team leaders and tour guides to groups of students during the summer months.

If you are interested in becoming a Junior Ambassador, you can call the Education Office at 504.568.6970.
