Description
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM) is poised for growth in the post-Katrina period and is seeking two experienced Exhibition Developers to work in New Orleans and be responsible for managing a wide array of long-term and changing exhibition projects for facilities located in the French Quarter and elsewhere. In developing superior visitor experiences, the incumbents will provide leadership and creative vision in the exhibition planning and implementation process while ensuring the successful sequencing, management, and integration of all related activities from initial concept to exhibition opening and subsequent evaluation. They will prepare and manage budgets, logistics, and schedules; help in the selection of vendors and professional service providers, help negotiate exhibition design and fabrication contracts; review design drawings, plan, direct, and supervise exhibition development, design, and production teams. The incumbents will ensure efficient and meaningful interaction involving the LSM's exhibition, curatorial, and education staff and all project-related outside consultants, designers, evaluators, fabricators, researchers, scholars, photographers, videographers, media designers, etc. The incumbents will also work with colleagues to ensure the appropriateness and accuracy of exhibition content, interpretive messages, themes, designs and treatments.
Duties include: The incumbents will report to the Interpretive Services Director and assist with recruiting, selecting, hiring, evaluating and on-going professional development of additional exhibition staff. They will serve as informed and articulate spokespersons, advocates, and liaisons for the exhibition division and the visitor experience as needed. The incumbents will maintain an active professional presence in local, regional and national museum communities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of recent innovations and techniques in the museum field.
Starting
salaries will be in the range of $45,000 - $50,000 depending
on qualifications. The State of Louisiana offers a comprehensive

Requirements
Minimum requirements include: A BA in Art History, Fine Arts, American History, American Studies, Museology, Anthropology, Archaeology, Geology, Cultural Geography, History, or Historical Geography plus three - four years of professional-level experience. Additional preferred requirements include: excellent writing, oral communication, interpersonal, project management, and supervisory skills; extensive experience in the development of audience-friendly exhibitions; understanding of audience research methods; graphic design skills.

The LSM's French Quarter facilities include six National Historic Landmarks: the Cabildo (1795 - 1799), the Presbytere (1791 - 1813), the Old U.S. Mint (1835), the Arsenal (1839), Madam John's Legacy (1789), and the 1850 House. The LSM operates additional museums in Patterson, Thibodaux, Natchitoches, and Baton Rouge.
