Loan Resolution Assistant

Salary: $27,500 - $30,000

Description
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM) is poised for growth in the post-Katrina period and is seeking three Loan Resolution Assistants to work in New Orleans. The incumbents will be responsible for clarifying ownership of a large backlog of outstanding loans made to the institution over a considerable period of time. The incumbents will report to the LSM's Loan Resolution Supervisor.

Duties include:
Researching existing records relating to previous LSM loan resolution initiatives. Updating database records of accessioned loans including the creation of new entries when necessary to create a complete and accessible database record for all loans old and new. Physically inventorying artifacts identified as loans to certify their location and condition. Preparing correspondence, contacting lenders or heirs as instructed by supervisors, coordinating as necessary with legal counsel regarding court procedures necessary to transfer title of loaned artifacts to the State of Louisiana.

The salary will be $27,500 - $30,000 depending on qualifications. This is a one-year position subject to renewal for an additional year. Health insurance benefits are provided.

Requirements
Minimum requirements include a BA degree in American history, American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Art History, Cultural Geography, Historic Preservation, History, Historical Geography, Museum Studies, Museology, or Fine Arts plus one year of professional level museum curatorial experience. Additional preferred requirements include: excellent writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills; experience as a registrar; familiarity with collection databases, particularly TMS.
