Description
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM) is poised for growth in the post-Katrina period and is seeking experienced professionals to serve as Marketing and Public Relations Officers for its New Orleans and Baton Rouge locations. The incumbents will be responsible for day-to-day public relations and marketing activities, publications, and the LSM's web presence. They will also be responsible for coordinating the LSM's facility rental program. The incumbents will report to the Marketing and Public Relations Director. Duties include:
Working with media, staff, and consultants. Writing press releases and other materials. Making sure the LSM website is up to date with input from other divisions and in partnership with IT personnel. Working with the Marketing and Public Relations Director to establish annual priorities. Developing and implementing targeted marketing plans for major exhibitions and public programs. Identifying consultants, designers, printers, and other professionals whose services are required. Identifying media sponsors. Interacting with LSM support organizations to promote membership, fund raising, and other income-generating activities. Helping to conduct or support, as necessary, consumer research.
Starting salaries will be in the range of $35,000 - $45,000 depending on qualifications.

Requirements
Minimum requirements include a BA degree and 1 - 3 years of professional-level experience in the research, writing, and dissemination of information to the public through media such as publications, broadcasting, the Internet, and/or public speaking.
Additional preferred requirements include: excellent writing, oral communication, interpersonal, and management skills; previous experience in a cultural institution setting; an interest in history; demonstrated ability to creatively identify story ideas that appeal to the media; successful track record of working with graphic designers, marketing consultants, and other professionals whose services are required; familiarity with the methods and value of consumer research.

LSM is a state agency founded in 1906. Headquartered in New Orleans, it encompasses a network of thirteen facilities located across Louisiana. There are 110 members of the staff and operating revenues from all public and private sources exceed $10 million. The LSM's French Quarter facilities include six National Historic Landmarks: the Cabildo (1795 - 1799), the Presbytere (1791 - 1813), the Old U.S. Mint (1835), the Arsenal (1839), Madam John's Legacy (1789), and the 1850 House. The LSM operates additional museums in Patterson, Thibodaux, Natchitoches, and Baton Rouge.
