Porcelain in the LSM collection represents several important European manufacturers, and local and international retailers. The majority dates to the mid-19th century, when there was a great amount of wealth along the Mississippi River and New Orleans was a booming commercial center. Many pieces were passed down through several generations of Louisiana families of European descent and were either bought locally or brought back from trips abroad.
